Well, I just got back today from a wonderful weekend away with my hubby. He had to go to Chicago for work "stuff" and I got to tag along! We left early Friday morning & arrived in Chicago around 3:00pm (noon our time). The flight was great & the weather was lovely when we arrived. We were staying right downtown in a gorgeous hotel on the "Magnificent Mile," a huge shopping district in the heart of Chicago. Talk about a beautiful part of the city. Just gorgeous, so clean & the well kept. There is so much beautiful architecture in that town...ahh, love it!
Friday, after we settled in, we went for a bite to eat at the Cheesecake Factory, which was dangerously close...right across the street! Delicious food & needless to say delicious cheesecake! I wasn't feeling that great in the evening so I stayed behind while Craig went to meet & greet at a cocktail reception.
Saturday morning Craig had a meeting so I slept in...ahh, it was glorious! Sleeping in is a treat for me since both of my kiddos are early risers. Craig came back close to 11:00 & we were off to shop! We walked up the Magnificent Mile & checked everything out. It was a gorgeous day, the sun shining & hardly any wind in the Windy city! We bought a few things but I could have filled my suitcase that's for sure! We walked to the river & took in some of the beautiful scenery.
As we walking up the street Saturday afternoon we passed the Sedin twins & Matthias Ohlund. (For those of you who don't watch hockey they are three players from the Canucks) Anyways, so we asked them for a picture & told them we were from Vancouver. We had no one to take our pic so Craig had me stand with them while he took the shot! Silly Craig didn't want his picture taken! Don't ask me why?!?! Ah, it was fun. They were in town to play the Chicago Blackhawks & we found out that they were staying at the same hotel we were. Crazy! We we're so blessed to be able to get 12th row tickets to the hockey game on Sunday against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Canucks lost but it was still so fun to go!
We sampled some of Chicago's great restaurants. And let me tell you they were all amazing, great food & such friendly people! We tried a Chicago style hot dog at the game...tomatoes, mustard, peppers, onions, a pickle spear & celery salt all on top of a jumbo hot dog. It was good, but I can say that hot dogs aren't really my favourite. My husband on the other hand loves hot dogs so this was like heaven...hockey & a jumbo hot dog! We also went to a great Italian restaurant & had Chicago style deep dish stuffed pizza, not that was delicious! Layers of cheese, sauce & toppings in a thick bread crust...YUM! We don't usually eat that kind of food very often but it was a holiday right? Somehow my Special K seemed really yummy today after all the rich food we sampled. :)
The weekend was great, we relaxed, we chatted & just enjoyed each other's company. It was such a wonderful time away but we were couldn't wait to get home to our boys! The plane ride home seemed twice as long as the one there & the car ride from the airport seemed to take forever! The excitement on their little faces when we walked in the door was so precious & I soaked in every moment of it! We asked Jonah what he would like from Chicago before we left & he told us he would like a "blue lollipop." And let me tell ya when we pulled out that blue lollipop from Chicago he was thrilled! He didn't even notice that there was a little bucket of Lego too! It's the simple things in life that just thrill them, I love it!
I'll have to post pictures later because for whatever reason it's not working for me right now!
